Eating and Drinking Your Way Through Fall in Folsom

Check out some spots to enjoy seasonal menus and fall in Folsom

Fall is harvest season–and Folsom’s favorite restaurants are making sure to capitalize on the seasonal vegetables and flavors that everyone craves as the temperatures start dropping. Thanksgiving might be the #1 day people think of when it comes to fall-time dining, but we’d like to believe that the entire season is meant to be spent around tables full of comfort food and seasonally spiced treats!

While we all love a good pumpkin spiced latte, we’ve lined up some Folsom foodie recommendations that won’t have you feeling the least bit basic.

Karen’s Bakery

Karen’s serves up seasonally inspired dishes all throughout the year for breakfast, brunch, and lunch–and fall time is no exception.

If you’re just looking to sate your sweet tooth, stop by Karen’s for a coffee, latte, or tea and treat yourself to something from their selection of baked goods that are always made in-house. Some of our favorite picks that serve up serious autumn feels include:

  • Maple pecan and pumpkin pastries
  • Apple Pie
  • Apple Strudel

While any Folsom native knows a trip to Apple Hill is essential during the season of shorter days, longer nights, and colorful leaves, you don’t have to make a day trip up Highway 50 to get your fix on apple baked goods. Just stop by Karen’s after a jaunt around historic Folsom, or a peaceful autumn stroll across Lake Natoma Crossing or Rainbow bridge.

If you’re lucky enough to find yourself at Karen’s for a sit-down brunch or lunch, you have to try their Fall Quinoa Salad.

Treat your tastebuds to this seasonal salad made of quinoa tossed with butternut squash, fresh veggies, fall’s chosen fruit (apples!), and an apple parsley vinaigrette.

And like any respectable bakery should, Karen’s kills the holiday-themed sugar cookie game. During Halloween you’ll find spooky cookies shaped like ghosts, skeletons, and pumpkins, and the rest of the season you’ll find similar themed sugar cookies that are perfect for parties, school events, or just a treat for yourself or a loved one when a dose of seasonal spirit is needed.

Back Bistro

Fall is the beginning of cozy, warm nights spent indoors. And what better to accompany you as the weather cools down than a glass of red wine paired with a plate of comfort food, like Back Bistro’s loaded potato flatbread or goat cheese fritters. Nothing screams chilly weather like meals made carbs upon carbs–and who cares about calories, it’s hoodie season!

While it’s tempting to stay in sweatpants and under a blanket as the temperatures drop, Back Bistro has a couple offerings that will convince even the sternest of homebodies to dine out.

Excuses to make it to Back Bistro in Palladio include:

  • “Dinner for Two” specials every Sunday-Wednesday
  • Happy hour every Sunday-Wednesday
  • Bourbon Bar memberships
  • Live music on the weekends

Back Bistro treats Folsom restaurant goers to a $49 “Dinner for Two” special with a bottle of wine, every Sunday through Wednesday 3-8 pm. Cozy up with a partner or pal with a shared bottle of wine and a tasty meal. If you’re just looking for a glass or two, their happy hour is also every Sunday – Wednesday, 3-6 pm.

And if you’re extra chilly as the temperatures start dropping, warm yourself up even faster at Back Bistro’s bourbon bar. Bourbon Bar members get exclusive happy hour deals and even more special treatment, so if you’re looking to wet your whistle in style, check out the membership details for Back Bar’s Bourbon Bar.

Once you’ve cozied up with quality drinks and soul warming dishes, stick around for live music every Thursday on the patio.

Out of Bounds Brewery

So much of fall is about celebrating everything it stands for–back to school festivities, Halloween, Thanksgiving, colorful leaves, crisp mornings, and harvest season fruits, vegetables, and spices. Another important part of fall though, is soaking up the great weather before winter keep everyone indoors for the next couple of months!

Luckily, you can get your fill of crisp, but not too cold days and nights outside at Out of Bounds Craft Kitchen and Biergarten. They have a huge patio behind their restaurant with fire pits, bocce ball, and tons of tables to enjoy their local crafted beers and full menu of food.

Choose from their burgers, giant pretzels, sandwiches, flatbreads, and salads, grab a beer, and make the most of the great weather while it lasts.

Fukumi Chaya Ramen

Any respectable guide to eating during the crisp months of fall would be remiss to leave out a quality option for soup. There’s nothing quite like homemade broth that warms you up during the colder seasons of the year. And who does classic broth better than a ramen shop?

For some of the best ramen around town, stop by Fukumi’s in the Folsom Palladio to warm up your taste buds with classic options. They’ve got everything you want in a Ramen joint:

  • Tonkotsu ramen (pork broth)
  • Toru-paitan (chicken broth)
  • Rice bowls
  • Japanese tapas

Pick your broth of choice, and load up your Ramen bowl with tender meat, crunchy veggies, and classic toppings. Or choose from Fukumi’s predesignated Ramen options–either way, you can’t go wrong with this recommendation.

Coffee Republic

While we did promise this guide would go beyond pumpkin spiced lattes, we have to admit that pretty much everyone likes a good pumpkin spiced latte…it’s ok, we’re all kind of basic sometimes!

So we are promoting fall-themed coffee drinks to finish off our list of Folsom fall dining musts, but Coffee Republic’s seasonal specials are far from basic. In their own words, their drink specials are:

  • Coffee Republic’s Famous Pumpkin White Mocha – A sweet creamy blend of white mocha, gooey caramel, and pumpkin mixed with espresso and your choice of milk. Served hot or iced.
  • Autumn Spice Latte – A subtle, sweet combination of maple spice and cinnamon, mixed with your choice of milk. Try with Oat milk! Served hot or iced.

And if you’re hungry while you’re getting your fall coffee fix, enjoy their seasonal breakfast option: Apple Cinnamon Oats!
